Netflix platform continues offensive in Poland spending hundreds of millions PLN for new productions

by Dignity News
The streaming platform Netflix has over 30 Polish films and series on its production list. In 2022 alone, the American giant has earmarked approximately PLN 400 million for Polish productions. For next year, the company announces a Polish production offensive.

“I am happy to be in Poland again. When I was here in 2016, we were just placing Netflix for the Polish market. Today, we have already produced more than 30 Polish films and series, including such hits as High Water and Broad Peak, which have been loved by millions of viewers in Poland and beyond. We want to continue to invest in Poland and jointly team up with the local creative industry to work on more pictures, so that Polish productions could be seen by the whole world”, says platform founder Reed Hastings.

Netflix’s plans for 2023 include the disaster series ‘Hevelius’, inspired by the story of the sinking of the ferry Jan Hevelius, and the series ‘Go ahead brother’ – a neo-western telling the contemporary story of a clash between two families who stand on two sides of the law. Kacper Wysocki will be responsible for the script, Łukasz Dzięcioł for production and Maciej Pieprzyca for direction. Two more instalments of ‘Furiosa’, a story taking place in the milieu of football fans, are also ready to be produced.

“There are new series projects ahead that will surprise Polish audiences. We feel honoured that we can work with the best creators in Poland, and that we have the opportunity to keep inviting more fantastic creators to work with us, such as Maciej Pieprzyca, who will be working with us on a new series for the first time”, says Anna Nagler, director of series for Central and Eastern Europe.

Netflix has also announced a new version of ‘Pan Samochodzik and the Knights Templar’ and series based on books by popular Polish authors Jakub Żulczyk and Remigiusz Mróz. The platform’s next project is ‘Lady Janosik’, in which the legend of the Tatra robber comes to life in a modern interpretation.
