The Tauron energy company will build a 33 MW wind farm near Raciborz. This will be the twelfth such investment of the corporation, but the first in the Silesian voivodeship. The energy generated by the 15 turbines will cover the needs of 28,000 households. The construction of the new farm is expected to start later this year, and the first electricity will be generated in the first half of 2024.
Paweł Szczeszek, President of the Tauron Group, said that in recent months the group has accelerated the realisation of Tauron’s Green Turn assumptions, which include increasing the installed capacity in renewable energy sources and reducing emissions by commissioning wind and fotovoltaic farms and starting the construction of others.
“Together with the Racibórz project, we have three wind farms under construction with a total capacity of over 110 MW and two photovoltaic farms with a total capacity of almost 150 MW”, said Szczeszek.
Tauron today has eleven wind farms in Majewo, Piotrków, Zagórze, Wicko, Marszewo, Lipniki, Śniatowo, Mogilno, Inowrocław, Dobrzyń, Gołdap. Electricity is generated there by a total of 200 wind turbines with a total capacity of 416 MW. Construction of the twelfth farm will begin later this year. It will be the first investment located in the Silesian voivodeship. The installation will consist of 15 turbines, with a capacity of 2.2 MW each.
In June this year, the group purchased the Mierzyn wind farm project in the West Pomeranian province. With this investment, the Group will increase its ‘green’ capacity by almost 60 MW. According to the adopted assumptions, the construction of the Mierzyn wind farm will be completed by the end of 2024.
The Group’s new strategy is to accelerate the Green Turn by increasing RES capacity exponentially. The Group is planning to operate 1,600 MW of installed wind, photovoltaic and hydroelectric power in 2025 and 3,700 MW in 2030. This will account for approximately 80 % of the Group’s total generation mix.
