German reparations to Poland: cooperation with Israel on this issue necessary

by Dignity News
Deputy Foreign Minister Arkadiusz Mularczyk spoke about the issue of war reparations from Germany. As he stressed, future cooperation with Israel on this issue “will be important, relevant and necessary”.

In an interview, the deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs (MFA) noted that Poland is conducting a broad information campaign on the reparations issue.

“We are informing our partners worldwide, preparing further actions, especially of an informative nature. They are crucial today so that our partners in various parts of the world and various international organisations understand the rationale behind our actions”, he said.

Asked if Poland could count on Israel’s support, Mularczyk replied, “I think obviously so”.
“This cooperation will be important and significant in the future, but also necessary, because after all we cannot forget that on 1 September Jarosław Kaczyński invited Israel to this initiative, and of course we are aware that 3 million of the murdered Polish citizens were Jews”, he explained.

Asked if there were any declarations from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the deputy head of the ministry of diplomacy said that there had been a conversation between Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“However, we must wait for the government to be constituted in Israel. Once that happens, I am convinced that there will be intensive talks on this issue”, Mularczyk stressed.

Poland is demanding compensation from Germany for the material and non-material losses suffered during World War II, compensation for the victims of German aggression and occupation and for Polish families, for the damage and harm done to them, and systemic measures to return the looted cultural property that is now in Germany. As calculated, the losses suffered by Poland as a result of German warfare amounted to more than 6.220.609 million PLN.
