Polish President Andrzej Duda travelled to Egypt on Sunday 6 November to attend the 27th UN Climate Change Conference COP27. The Polish leader will speak about the climate impact of Russian aggression against Ukraine, announced the President’s Office.
“At the COP27 summit, President Duda will address issues including energy security, environmental protection and a fair transition”, said the president’s climate advisor Paweł Sałek. He added that there would also be discussion of the Ukrainian issue.
The Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) is taking place in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. The discussion is expected to focus on financial needs and commitments, including shaping the tools needed to respond to the damage caused by climate change. Poland will be represented by President Andrzej Duda.
“Andrzej Duda took several issues into account when deciding to participate in COP27”, said Paweł Sałek. “Poland is in the mainstream of the debate on climate change all the time. However, the climate and environmental issues are nowadays also very strongly connected with energy security, security of supply and food issues”, said the presidential advisor, adding that this was one of the reasons why the president decided to be present at this global meeting, also in terms of the Ukrainian issues.
Bilateral meetings are also on the agenda of the visit. On Monday, 7 November, Andrzej Duda will hold talks with Moldovan Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita. Meanwhile, on Tuesday 8 November, the Polish leader is scheduled to meet with Equinor ASA CEO Anders Opedal, Kenyan President William Ruto and Microsoft Corporation CEO Brad Smith.
