Poland’s Ministry of State Assets, South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Polish power companies ZE PAK and PGE, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) announced the signing of a letter of intent on the Pątnów nuclear power plant development plan and the signing of a cooperation agreement between the ministries.

The presidents of the three companies from the two countries, the Polish private power group ZE PAK, the Polish majority-owned energy group PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna and the Korean KHNP, signed a letter of intent with the main objective of developing a plan to build a nuclear power plant in Pątnów, Poland, based on APR1400 technology.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State Assets Jacek Sasin and South Korea’s Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Lee Chang – Yang signed an agreement in which they declare to make every effort to support the Pątnów nuclear power project and to enhance cooperation in the necessary exchange of information.

The project is expected to support the independence and stability of the Polish energy system and should ultimately increase the competitiveness of the Polish economy, create new investment opportunities in Poland, but most importantly provide Polish households with cheap and clean energy at a stable price for the next 60 years.

“We need sources of cheap and stable energy in Poland. Nuclear power is indispensable in Polish conditions, especially in the current geopolitical situation. The initiative of ZE PAK and PGE is extremely interesting as it pursues the strategic goals of Poland and Poles – cheap energy and energy independence in line with the Polish Energy Policy until 2040 adopted by the Polish government in 2021”, said Deputy Prime Minister Sasin.
