Polish food exports to soar

by Dignity News
The value of Polish agri-food exports in the first eight months of 2022 amounted to €30.3 billion (PLN 140 billion). This is nearly 27% more than a year ago, reported the National Centre for Agricultural Support (KOWR).

“Such a dynamic increase in revenues obtained from exports by the domestic agri-food industry is a result of high transaction prices in exports and disruptions in international supply chains. Also, a significant factor is the tendency of depreciation of the Polish zloty, especially against the euro and the US dollar, which is a supportive element of the price competitiveness of Polish food on the international market”, says Deputy Director of the National Agricultural Property Fund Marcin Wroński.

Domestic entrepreneurs sold agri-food products mainly to the European Union (EU) market. Exports of foodstuffs to EU-27 countries were 30 % higher than a year ago, their value amounting to EUR 22.4 billion. This accounted for more than 74% of the revenue generated from total agri-food exports.

Germany remained Poland’s main trading partner. Exports to this country amounted to EUR 7.5 billion, 26% more than in the previous year. Important recipients of Polish agri-food products were also: The Netherlands (€2.1 billion, up 45 %), France (€1.9 billion, up 32 %), Italy (€1.5 billion, up 16 %) and the Czech Republic (€1.3 billion, up 32 %).

From January to August this year, the main goods exported to the EU were poultry meat (€2.1 billion), cigarettes (€1.9 billion), dairy products (€1.8 billion), beef (€1.2 billion) and bread and bakery products (€1.1 billion). In contrast, exports to non-EU countries were mainly dairy products, poultry meat, wheat, chocolate products and bread and bakery products.
