Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of State Assets Jacek Sasin after a meeting with US Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm said that Poland is close to make the decision to identify a partner. “I think that after this meeting we are much closer to being able to make this decision”, said Sasin.
The main topics of the talks of the Polish delegation in the USA, also attended by the Minister of Climate and Environment Anna Moskwa, included the American offer to build a nuclear power plant in Poland, cooperation within the International Atomic Energy Agency and energy security measures.
“It was a very constructive and important meeting that dealt with our joint nuclear power projects. It served to clarify any issues that remained to be clarified regarding the government’s decision on the selection of a partner in the project to build a Polish nuclear power plant”, stressed Deputy Prime Minister Jacek Sasin after the meeting.
The head of the climate and environment ministry noted that Poland appreciates the cooperation with the US, based on the intergovernmental agreement signed in October 2020.
These 18 months of implementation of the agreement by the US, preparation of documents for the environmental and location decision – this was the implementation of the agreement. The final stage of this cooperation is to decide whether we accept the final report of the US side,” said Anna Moskwa.
Deputy Prime Minister Jacek Sasin also spoke about the importance of investment in nuclear power for Poland’s energy security.
“We do not have time. The huge energy crisis that we are currently experiencing makes it necessary for us to take quick decisions on building the country’s energy security on the basis of new, clean, cheap and reliable sources, and nuclear energy is just such a source”, said Jacek Sasin.
