Mateusz Morawiecki assured that there will undoubtedly be a very high availability of coal throughout the heating season. – “However, at the very beginning it is advisable to order it with some postponement, with delivery for December or January”, the Prime Minister noted in an interview.
“The problem of coal availability has been troubling me for several months, which is why we hold regular meetings of several ministers key to the energy issue. We are importing coal from all over the world, we are trying to deliver it to various places in Poland, eliminating bottlenecks”, the Prime Minister said when asked whether Poland would not run out of coal in winter.
The head of government added that the distribution process largely depends on private entrepreneurs – coal depots.
“We therefore want to increase the amount of coal contracted and delivered to Poland, compared to that consumed during the previous season, so that its high supply will induce coal depots to sell it at decent prices. We will do everything in our power to ensure that this coal is not in short supply,” Mateusz Morawiecki assured, adding that Poland already has coal contracted until April at a level that exceeds the consumption of the previous winter.
The Prime Minister was also asked about high energy and gas prices. Asked whether these prices will continue to rise, he replied that it depends to a great extent on gas prices on international markets, as well as on the European Commission’s (EC) response to the Polish call to change the price calculation rules.
The head of government believes that the European Union’s misguided energy and climate policy is complicit in today’s situation.
“There are two culprits. One is the criminal Russian system and, of course, the accusation must be directed primarily in this regard. But we also cannot pretend that the EU policy, the EC policy, has not contributed to these extremely high prices. It contributed a lot,” assessed Prime Minister Morawiecki.
