The Legnica Copper Smelter and the Głogów Copper Smelter have received positive audit results under the international Copper Mark certificate. KGHM Polska Miedź Group has thus maintained its position among the 28 companies from around the world which have been awarded this mark.

The Copper Mark was established to promote responsible copper production. The renewal of certification allows KGHM, among other things, to maintain the registration of its products (copper cathodes and lead products) on the London Metal Exchange.

The Głogów and Legnica copper smelters joined the Copper Mark programme in 2020. International experts checked the compliance of the business processes of KGHM’s divisions with the 32 criteria for awarding the mark. Activities related to environmental protection, the metals supply chain, working conditions, risk management practices or cooperation with local communities were taken into account. This year, a complementary compliance audit was conducted as part of the Copper Mark certification.

The Copper Mark was created to enable a better understanding of and to meet the growing demands for independently verified responsible manufacturing practices and to make a positive contribution to sustainable development.

It is a voluntary programme for companies in the copper industry to receive a kind of quality certificate. Entities that successfully pass the verification can use the mark in their corporate publications, on contracts or on copper products.

The Copper Mark system provides information on the procedures and production principles of copper mining and processing companies. The mark is a signal to investors or companies using copper in their products, that plants with such a mark are reliable and responsible business partners.
