1 August 2022. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki will meet with Australia’s Governor-General David Hurley in Warsaw. The main topics of discussion will include bilateral cooperation, Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and related energy and food security. “The visit is an important part of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries”, reports the Government Information Centre.
Australian media highlight that David Hurley will be the first Australian Governor-General to pay an official visit to Poland. He arrived in Warsaw last night. The Governor General was welcomed at the airport by the Australian Ambassador to Poland, Lloyd Broderick.
In Warsaw, David Hurley will also meet with President Andrzej Duda and the Speakers of the Sejm and Senate: Elżbieta Witek and Tomasz Grodzki.
The main topics of the Polish-Australian talks will be the prospects for the development of bilateral cooperation and Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine and related energy and food security. The situation in the Indo-Pacific region will also be discussed.
The government spokesman Piotr Müller emphasises that the visit of the Governor General of Australia to Poland is an important element in the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between both countries. It is also part of the recently observed intensification of Polish-Australian relations.
Currently, Australia, like Poland, strongly supports Ukraine in its conflict with the Russian aggressor. It also provides military and humanitarian aid to the country.
During the most difficult period of the COVID-19 pandemic for Australia, Poland donated one million vaccines to its population. “Our country supports its partners – also in difficult moments. We have already proved this in previous years when the Polish government came out with an offer to send firefighters to help burning Australia”, recalls the Polish government spokesperson.
