The Polish government will donate medical equipment worth more than €1 million to the Institute of Mother and Child in Chisinau. Minister of Health Adam Niedzielski and Minister of Health of Moldova Ala Nemerenco agreed on 25 July during a meeting on the next steps for the implementation of the project to modernise this medical facility, reported the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Moldova.

Minister Niedzielski visited the Institute of Mother and Child in Chisinau during his visit to Moldova. The Polish Ministry of Health confirmed on Twitter that Poland will donate operating tables, defibrillators, ultrasound and ECG equipment to this institution. “By helping the institute, we are also helping Ukraine, as Ukrainian patients who are fleeing the war end up here”.

Moldova’s Minister of Health Ala Nemerenco thanked Poland’s support for her country’s healthcare system, while Minister Adam Niedzielski expressed openness to further support the Moldovan authorities’ efforts to modernise the healthcare system.

The Ministry of Health of Moldova stated that between 2009 and 2022, 28 health projects worth around €500,000 were implemented with the support of the Polish government.

According to Wojciech Andrusiewicz, spokesman for the Ministry of Health, the issue of staff shortages in Moldovan health care was also raised during the talks. Minister Niedzielski presented solutions for the Polish system of educating medics and attracting staff from outside the European Union.

Polish achievements in building an e-health system were also presented. Minister Niedzielski announced that Poland would support Moldova in building such a system and assured that it would also provide support for the transformation of Moldovan healthcare in connection with the country’s future accession to the European Union.
