Anne-Marie Trevelyan, the UK’s Minister for International Trade, met in Warsaw with Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for State Assets Jacek Sasin and Minister for Development and Technology Waldemar Buda. The talks focused on energy transition, food security and strengthening Polish-British economic relations.
At the Ministry of State Assets, discussions included cooperation in offshore wind and nuclear energy, Polish plans for hydrogen, the development of disused mines and the conversion of gas-fired power and thermal power plants.
Representatives of Polish and British companies including PGE Baltica, Orlen, Enea, Tauron, PGNiG, Shell, TeleFonika also participated in the talks.
The Ministry of Development and Technology discussed the strengthening of Polish-British economic relations in trade and investment, including in the area of green technologies and the impact of the war in Ukraine on the economy, as well as the support and reconstruction of the country.
Minister Waldemar Buda pointed out that due to the food crisis caused by Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine, Poland as a food producer can be self-sufficient.
“We are observing the situation in the world with concern trying to facilitate agri-food supplies, especially in the Middle East area”, said Buda.
The UK is a key economic partner for Poland. For many years it has been one of the most important recipients of our exports (after Germany, the Czech Republic and France). Trade turnover in 2021 was more than €19 billion (an increase of 2 per cent), while Polish exports increased by 6 per cent and returned to pre-pandemic values after a decline in 2020.
