The former US ambassador to Poland Georgette Mosbacher says that a current discussion in the European Union regarding Poland and the rule of law is simply unfair. “It is absurd, and it is a pity that the Union gives faith to such lies. I am afraid that this constant nit-picking toward Poland stems from the misunderstanding of this country, which is a leader in Central and Eastern Europe”. She added that for their attitude towards Ukrainians, “Poles deserve the Nobel Peace Prize”.
The former US ambassador also emphasized that Poland had repeatedly warned the world about Russia, but no one wanted to listen. Mosbacher reminded the public that Polish politicians sounded the alarm, but it was ignored. “The pro-Russian lobby was stronger”, she added.
According to her, no other country has done as much in energy security as Poland.
“For years, Poles have been trying to tell the world what Russia is in the international arena. But no one wanted to listen”, said Mosbacher. “Who listened to Poland when it spoke about the threat posed by the Nord Stream 2 project? The situation today is largely the fault of the Germans. They wanted to make Europe dependent on cheap Russian gas and on Nord Stream 2. They closed their eyes. They were building a joint gas pipeline with a politician annexing Crimea and Donbas. They were doing business together”, said the former US ambassador.
Georgette Mosbacher also expressed the belief that the European Union should finally become independent from Russia and stop feeding it. In her opinion, “the war unleashed by the Russian president Vladimir Putin should open everyone’s eyes and make everyone aware of the importance of energy independence. “Today everybody can see how wrong the European Union was about Russia”, noted the former US ambassador to Poland.
