Deputy Minister of Interior and Administration Błażej Poboży said that the wall on the border with Belarus would be built by the end of June. The construction of the physical barrier, which will be built on 187 km of the Podlasie section of the Polish-Belarusian border, started on January 25.
“The works are progressing at a really fast pace, I would like to remind the public that when we set this date for several months, the opposition leaders mocked that this barrier will never be built” – said the deputy minister.
Until the construction is completed i.e. the end of June – it is forbidden to stay in 183 towns in the Podlasie and Lublin regions. From July 1, certain restrictions will apply only in Podlasie, where an electronic barrier will be installed in the 200 meters distance from the borderline protecting 202 km of the EU border.
At the beginning of November, Mariusz Kaminski, Minister of the Interior and Administration, presented the design of the wall along the border with Belarus. It will include five-meter-high steel poles crowned with a half-meter coil of barbed wire – in total, the wall will be 5.5 meters high. Along the border, motion sensors, as well as day and night cameras, will be installed.
“After commissioning it at the end of June, (the first parts are already completed by the constructors), the process of installing electronic components will begin. Then we will obtain the most modern security system in Europe” announced Deputy Minister Błażej Poboży.
The physical barrier is built by Budimex, the consortium of Unibep and its subsidiary Budrex. Its steel elements were made by a consortium of three companies: Polimex-Mostostal, Mostostal Siedlce and Węglokoks. The value of contracts with these companies is PLN 1 233 million in total. Including the contract for the electronic barrier, the total cost that the Border Guard signed with Elektrotim – is PLN 1 billion 565 million.
