According to the Asseco report “Paperless gap and other challenges on the way to the digitization of documents in business”, it is estimated that there are currently 50 thousand IT specialists missing in Poland including programmers, developers and architects, but also leaders who are able to run an organization through digital change and implement tools for digitization of documents in forms
The authors of the report state that the lack of specialists in this field is the biggest barrier to the implementation of tools for the digitization of documents for 61% of companies. This problem was felt more strongly by companies that already use digital solutions and have implemented an electronic signature in their organization (65%). Among those companies that have not used digital solutions yet, 49% notice the shortage of specialists.
Andrzej Dopierała, CEO of Asseco Data Systems and Asseco Poland vice-president said that the IT industry has been struggling with a shortage of specialists for a long time, which limits the availability of services and increases their costs. “Digitization covers so many areas of our lives that the lack of human resources will affect the entire economy in the long term. Our research shows that the problem is also noticed by entrepreneurs from other industries who would like to digitize their business, but often do not have the knowledge and competence in their teams to implement an appropriate solution” he adds.
According to the vice president of Asseco Poland, the problem appears at the very beginning of the process, because many companies are not even able to precisely formulate their expectations when in terms of digital or cybersecurity solutions.
Digitization requires not only technical expertise but also a comprehensive approach at various levels and an understanding of change within the organization. “Therefore, extensive cooperation between various businesses, industry experts, administration and universities is needed to improve the competences of current employees, and, on the other hand, intensively develop the system of educating future generations of IT specialists”, explains Andrzej Dopierała.
Among the barriers to digitization, entrepreneurs also see poor legal adjustment (43%), as well as the lack of good, industry-specific examples of successful digitization that have brought real benefits to companies. Such a limit is noticed by 41% of respondents.
