Poland is a leader in the global export of construction joinery

by Dignity News
“In 2021, Poland was the world leader in the export of plastic and wooden windows. Since joining the European Union, Polish exports of joinery products have increased almost tenfold, to nearly EUR 3 billion last year”, states the Polish Economic Institute

According to GUS data, in 2021 the value of Polish joinery exports increased by 24% (year-to-year), while its share in Polish exports amounted to 1%. “The most important commodity items were doors and windows, their frames and thresholds made of plastic, their deliveries accounted for over 50% of the total industry exports and brought a total of approximately 1.5 billion euros, 28% more than a year earlier”, says the PIE report.

In 2021, Poland was the world leader in the sale of plastic and wooden windows abroad, reaching 36.2% and 28% participation in world exports, respectively. Poland was second to China, in the export of aluminium windows and doors with a share of 9.2% and the third exporter of wooden doors (after China and Brazil), with a share of 8.3%, and the eighth largest supplier of cast iron or steel joinery in the world with a share of 4.1%.

The most important sales markets for Polish construction joinery are the EU countries, as well as the United Kingdom and the USA. The largest EU buyer is Germany, which in 2021 bought 35% of plastic windows and doors and over 25% of doors and windows made of wood and aluminium. Other EU clients included France, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Sweden.

PIE economists indicated that the beginning of 2022 brought another record-breaking export result. According to data from the Central Statistical Office of Poland (GUS), its value in Q1 amounted to approximately EUR 867 million, i.e. 34% more than in the corresponding period of 2021.

“Part of this increase is due to the significant change in prices, but the results are still surprisingly good. The entrepreneurs faced challenges: high inflation, shortages of raw materials and semi-finished products, transport problems, economic slowdown and a likely decrease in demand for durable goods”, assessed the Institute’s analysts.

According to PIE experts, thermo-modernization programs related to the implementation of the European Green Deal will support the boom in construction products, including modern, soundproofed and energy-efficient windows and doors.
