The President of Poland, Andrzej Duda is paying visits to the region of Central and Eastern Europe, aiming to coordinate cooperation and aid for Ukraine and talk about the perspective of European integration for Ukraine. On Friday, May 13, the President of Poland will visit Estonia.
Later that same day, in Tallinn, he will meet the President of the Republic of Estonia, Alar Karis, as well as Prime Minister Kaja Kallas. The topics of the talks will include further assistance to Ukraine and granting it EU candidate status.
“Poland and Estonia are the main engines of European humanitarian and military aid for Ukraine”, said Jakub Kumoch, the Head of the International Policy Bureau, before his departure to Tallinn.
The second issue is the mission of the leaders of Central European countries aimed at persuading Western leaders to grant Ukraine the status of a candidate for EU membership.
“We can see that there are countries in the West that have said clearly: yes to such an initiative, and there are countries that hesitate. President Duda will talk to the leaders of these countries, but he will also be accompanied by other Presidents”, remarked Minister Jakub Kumoch.
“Today we need a clear signal from the West that Ukraine is a part of it. The idea of granting Ukraine the status of a candidate country to the European Union is important. I have accepted the proposal of President Zuzana Čaputova to undertake a lobbying mission for Ukraine among our colleagues in EU countries, in Western Europe, especially where there are doubts about whether Ukraine should get this status quickly. We have no doubts that it should be granted this status as soon as possible”, emphasized Andrzej Duda after talks with the President of Slovakia, Zuzana Čaputova.
