The Castle Museum in Malbork, the City of Kwidzyn and the Kwidzyn Cultural Center, with the participation of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, signed a letter of intent for the creation of a new permanent exhibition presenting the history of Kwidzyn and its inhabitants.

Since 2018, the cathedral and castle complex in Kwidzyn has been awarded the title of a historical monument. As a branch of the Castle Museum in Malbork, it presents collections about the history of Powiśle, the history of the Teutonic Knights, and the Pomesanian chapter, but there is no more detailed story about the history of the city, which will be celebrating its 800-year anniversary in 2033. “In a year and a half, it will be possible to organize an interesting permanent exhibition about the history of Kwidzyn in the new facility near the castle”, said Jarosław Sellin, Deputy Minister of Culture and National Heritage, General Conservator of Monuments.

For many years, the Kwidzyn Castle, as a branch of the Malbork Castle Museum, was the only place visited by tourists and guests. In recent years, the offer has been enriched by visiting the Kwidzyn Cathedral, the crypt where the great masters of the Teutonic Order were buried, and the entrance to the Cathedral’s bell tower.

In the vicinity of the presbytery, there is a Tabularium souvenir shop, where guests can buy many interesting publications related to Kwidzyn.

The concept of the new venture involves the creation of a single, common and coherent offer for tourists, which will allow more visitors to visit the entire cathedral and castle complex.

The organization of a permanent exhibition devoted to the history of the city will be carried out with the support of the Castle Museum in Malbork. “The museum will provide scientific and conservation care for the artefacts of relics that have been collected over the years by the city authorities and by the Kwidzyn Cultural Center, will organize a permanent exhibition, temporary exhibitions as well as cultural and educational events”, said the director of the Castle Museum in Malbork, Dr Janusz Trupinda.
