Gaz-System launched a new gas compressor station – an important element of the North-South Corridor

by Dignity News
Gaz-System has launched a new gas compressor station in Kędzierzyn-Koźle. The company has announced that a modern compressor station is a key element of the North-South Gas Corridor and allows the transmission of gas supplied by the Baltic Pipe and the LNG Terminal in Świnoujście to the south and east of Poland – from Lower Silesia to the Podkarpacie region.

“The launch of a new compressor station in Kędzierzyn-Koźle, which is the 15th compressor station in the National Transmission System, is another important stage of the largest Gaz-System investment plan in history, which aims to change the direction of gas supplies to Poland from the east to the north. The construction of this compressor station, together with the facility in Gustorzyn and the stations in Goleniów and Odolanów being extended under the Baltic Pipe project, will allow increasing the compression capacity of the gas transmission system in Poland by over 50%. Thanks to Gaz-System’s investments, the Polish gas system is now resistant to disruptions in gas supplies from the east”, emphasizes Tomasz Stępień, the president of Gaz-System.

The Kędzierzyn Compressor Station is equipped with three compressors with a capacity of 7.68 MW each, driven by gas turbines. The construction of the facility took three years. As part of the investment, the possibility of expansion from three to six compressors has been envisaged, which will allow increasing the pumping capacity in the future. The North-South Gas Corridor, which includes a compressor station, consists of over 860 km of gas pipelines.

The compressor station has an area of 10 hectares and is located in the forest near the largest housing estate in the city. Its construction provides for the change in the direction of gas fuel supplies from the East to the North.

“The compressor station is part of the broad plans to diversify gas supplies to Poland. Kędzierzyn is one of the five pressing plants that we will commission in Poland this year”, says Stępień. The entire investment program of Gaz-System is worth over PLN 20 billion. The company has been implementing it since 2016.
