According to the data from the Polish Chamber of Insurance (PIU), Poles received PLN 41.3 billion in compensation and insurance benefits, in 2021. This is over 4% more than a year earlier. Last year, Poles spent PLN 69.2 billion on insurance, i.e. 9.1% more than a year earlier.

The payment of PLN 41.3 billion for the injured and victims was composed of: PLN 18.4 billion from life insurance, PLN 15.3 billion from motor insurance (OC + AC) and about PLN 7.6 billion from other insurance.

In the life insurance market in 2021, both the payment of benefits and the premium were growing. This was related to an increased interest in protection policies and increased mortality due to the pandemic. In total, the life insurance premium amounted to PLN 22.1 billion.

In property insurance, motor insurance accounts for the largest part of compensations. Compensation and benefits from the obligatory third-party liability insurance of vehicle owners in 2021 amounted to PLN 9.3 billion and were 3.2% higher than a year before.

Compensation from auto casco amounted to PLN 6 billion, i.e. by 9.2% more than a year before. At the same time, despite the increase in the cost of compensations, the average premium in third-party liability insurance has fallen. In 2021, it was PLN 488 i.e. 2% less than a year earlier. At the same time, the average TPL compensations increased by 3.8%, to PLN 8,484.

The average auto casco premium in 2021 was PLN 1,197, i.e. by 1% more than a year earlier. At the same time, the cost of the average compensation increased by 7%, to PLN 7,257.

PIU emphasized that in 2021 there were no weather phenomena in Poland that would result in a significant increase in compensations in property insurance. Damages related to natural disasters and other material damages amounted to PLN 3.4 billion, i.e. 0.5% less than a year ago.

In 2021, insurers paid over PLN 1.2 billion in income tax to the state budget. During this time, they generated PLN 5.7 billion of net profit, i.e. 7.3% less than a year ago.
