The Catholic Church provided information on the amount of aid for the Ukrainians affected by the war. From the beginning of the war to the end of March, Polish parishes and orders provided refugees with financial aid worth a total of approximately PLN 121 million and donations worth PLN 121 million. The data was presented by the Polish Episcopate, Caritas Polska and the Institute of Statistics of the Catholic Church.
The presented data show that from February 24 to March 31, Polish parishes provided refugees from Ukraine with financial aid worth PLN 103 million and donations in kind worth PLN 106 million. Almost 300,000 beds were also provided.
Monks provided financial aid worth PLN 16 million, products worth PLN 13 million, and 27,000 beds. In addition, the monks offered 1.8 million meals, and 13,000 people were also provided with psychological or therapeutic care. Tens of thousands of refugees also benefited from legal aid.
Nuns raised PLN 1.8 million to help refugees, donated PLN 2.5 million in products, and provided 10,000. beds.
The report was prepared on the basis of a study in three groups: in Catholic and Greek Catholic parishes, in female and male convents, and covers the period from February 24 to March 31 this year. It shows that 98% of parishes were involved in helping refugees and most often it was financial aid. 74% of the parish provided donations in kind, and 45% of the parishes provided accommodation.
Since February 24, the day of the beginning of Russia’s aggression, 2.73 million refugees from Ukraine have crossed the Polish-Ukrainian border, informs the Border Guard, they are mainly women and children.
