Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki’s met with Sundar Pichai, head of Google and Alphabet to talk about Google’s support for organizations helping Ukrainians in Poland and the fight against Russian fake news.
Prime Minister Morawiecki wrote on Facebook “This is not our first meeting. Earlier, we talked many times about how important Poland is for Alphabet. As part of strengthening strategic Polish-American cooperation, Google locates here further investments and employs world-class IT specialists. But the most important issues among discussed today are the war in Ukraine, including the Internet combat in the context of the fight against disinformation, and help for refugees.
The meeting was also attended remotely by the Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Janša and the representative of the Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala.
Sundar Pichai, on behalf of Google, undertook to donate funds to support organizations helping Ukrainians in Poland
“I am glad that Poles and the Polish state are not alone in our efforts. Soon, after Easter, we will organize a great conference for the private donors”, announced the Polish Prime Minister.
Mateusz Morawiecki informed the public that the second issue that was raised during the talks was the fight against Russian fake news and an appropriate information policy that cares about the quality of information and maintains the high morale of the society. “Google puts a lot of effort into this”, noted the Prime Minister noted.
“We also talked about moving away from Russian fossil fuels, a low-carbon economy and supporting the development of the high-tech sector that is accelerating these changes. Poland has the ability and ambition to be one of the leaders of these transformations in Europe, assured the Prime Minister. He added that “together we are fighting for a peaceful, modern vision of the future to win with a brute force based on archaic ideas and old technologies.”
