During the 2023/2024 school year, students and teachers will once again have the opportunity to test themselves in the IT Fitness Test digital competence relay. They will also receive free access to the creative virtual platform Minecraft Education, it was announced at a press conference on the occasion of the National Day of Digital Competence in Schools, declared on 12 September.
The new digital education projects were presented at a joint press conference by Minister of Education and Science Przemysław Czarnek, Plenipotentiary of the Minister of Education and Science for Digital Transformation Antoni Rytel, President of the Management Board of Cyfrowa Polska Michał Kanownik and Director General of Microsoft in Poland Dominika Bettman.
“I am proud to announce that 12 September, starting today, will become Digital Competence Day in Schools every year. What does this mean? It means further investment, but also great cooperation with companies such as Microsoft and Cyfrowa Polska”, said Minister Czarnek during the conference.
The head of the Ministry of Education and Science announced that “the well-known game – Minecraft Education – will be free for all schools from the 4th grade upwards from today”.
The world of Minecraft Education is unlimited. We can fly into space, create a wind farm or map out our own school in a land of multipurpose blocks. It is an immersive adventure for students, which makes learning the competences of the future accessible and attractive for everyone”, said Dominika Bettman, Director General of Microsoft in Poland.
Digital competences are a set of skills related to proficient use of technology and modern electronic devices. It includes, among others: working with software, the ability to effectively use the Internet and manage data, solving everyday technological problems, basic understanding of operating a computer or other electronic devices.
