Jacek Sasin, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State Assets announced on Sunday, February 20, that Poland is anticipating to commission the first block of a traditional nuclear power plant in 2033. \u201cIt was a result of my conversation with the Secretary of Energy Granholm\u201d, said Sasin. He added that during his visit to the USA he had received a promise about a significant share of American capital in the investment. \u201cWe were talking about an amount of a billion dollars\u201d, revealed Deputy Prime Minister.<\/p>\n
Jacek Sasin also announced that on behalf of the Polish government\u00a0the matter will be supervised by Minister Piotr Naimski, the government’s plenipotentiary for strategic energy infrastructure.<\/p>\n
\u201cFirst of all, we are currently choosing the financing model. We do not hide from American partners, that we count for their financial participation in that joint Polish-American investment, that the Americans would provide not only technology but also the capital. I received such an assurance of a significant share of capital from the USA. We are talking about a billion dollars\u201d, said Sasin.<\/p>\n
As the deputy prime minister assured, the final contractor, a technology supplier on the American side, will be indicated later this year. He also stressed that “Poland needs American capital for geostrategic and political reasons”.<\/p>\n
The Minister of State Assets recalled that a few days ago KGHM had signed an agreement with NuScale on the commencement of work on the implementation of SMR modular reactors in Poland.<\/p>\n
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized, that it has signed an agreement that covers the first phase of construction of a nuclear power plant in Poland. The commissioning of the first reactor will take place in 2029.<\/p>\n
Jacek Sasin added that the KGHM-NuScale contract is not the only initiative for modular reactors in recent times. PKN Orlen also concluded an agreement a few months ago with a company Synthos Green Energy, which provides for the construction of one reactor. It will be commissioned by the end of the 1920s \u2013 said Sasin.<\/p>\n
