KGHM has completed the acquisition of 7 more photovoltaic plants, finalising its transaction debut on the Renewable Energy Market. A complete portfolio of solar power plants with a capacity of nearly 50 MW has come under the control of the copper company.<\/span><\/p>\n The transaction completed by KGHM is the first step towards realising its ambitious energy transformation strategy. \u201cThis is an important milestone laying the foundations for the further development of the copper company’s own power generation base and a further step towards the diversification of sources and KGHM’s independence from energy market price fluctuations”, said Miros\u0142aw Kido\u0144, KGHM’s Vice President for foreign assets and production.<\/span><\/p>\n The acquired assets are located in Dolno\u015bl\u0105skie, Pomorskie, Wielkopolskie and \u0141\u00f3dzkie voivodeships. The company responsible for their construction was Projekt Solartechnik, part of the Grenevia (Famur) and TDJ groups.<\/span><\/p>\n The energy transformation of KGHM Polska Mied\u017a S.A. is currently one of the company’s priorities and is reflected in the adopted Strategy. The copper giant is planning to meet 50 per cent of its electricity needs from its own sources (zero- and low-carbon) by 2030, and in the longer term to achieve climate neutrality by 2050.<\/span><\/p>\n KGHM is one of the largest consumers of electricity in Poland and accounts for almost 2 % of domestic consumption. The company anticipates additional growth in demand in the near future.<\/span><\/p>\n Investments in RES strengthen KGHM’s position on global markets as a leader not only in the mining industry, but also as a leader in environmental responsibility. Energy transformation without copper is not possible. “By introducing photovoltaic farms to our assets, we are also giving a sign that we are hedging against market turbulence in the energy sector.
