The vote of confidence is scheduled for 3 p.m. If Prime Minister Morawiecki does not obtain the required absolute majority, then the appointment of the government passes to the Sejm, in accordance with the constitution. This is the second constitutional step, during which the Sejm elects the Prime Minister and the members of the Council of Ministers proposed by him by an absolute majority of votes in the presence of at least half of the statutory number of MPs.<\/p>\n
According to the Sejm’s Rules of Procedure, the Prime Minister’s candidate can be proposed by at least 46 MPs.<\/p>\n
According to the agenda, this agenda point is due to start at 4.30 p.m. A vote on the election of the Prime Minister by the Sejm is already scheduled for 6.45 p.m.<\/p>\n
If Mateusz Morawiecki does not win a vote of confidence, the candidate designated as prime minister by the Sejm will present his government’s programme to MPs on Tuesday 12 December after 9am.<\/p>\n
The candidate of the Civic Coalition (KO), the Polish People’s Party (PSL), Poland 2050 and the Left is KO leader Donald Tusk. To remind, the heads of these parties signed a coalition agreement on 10 November. The parties have a majority of 248 votes. The Law and Justice club, which supports Prime Minister Morawiecki, has 191 MPs.<\/p>\n
According to the constitution, the president appoints the Council of Ministers elected by the Sejm and takes the oath of office from its members.<\/p>\n
Media reports so far indicate that the deputy prime ministers in Donald Tusk’s cabinet are expected to be: W\u0142adys\u0142aw Kosiniak-Kamysz of the PSL, who will also hold the post of Minister of National Defence, and Krzysztof Gawkowski of the Left, who will be the Minister of Digitalisation.<\/p>\n
