The investment, apart from its fundamental purpose related to KGHM’s ongoing energy transformation, will also have a significant impact on structuring KGHM’s policy on the integration of renewable energy assets, those developed in-house and those acquired as part of our activities on the acquisition market. The installations purchased will ensure around 2% coverage of KGHM’s electricity needs”, said Mateusz Wodejko, KGHM’s Vice President for Financial Affairs.<\/p>\n
The purchase of the photovoltaic installations is in line with the goals set out in KGHM’s strategy. The copper giant is striving to achieve climate neutrality by 2050, and indirectly intends to satisfy at least 50% of demand for electricity from its own sources, including Renewable Energy Sources, by 2030.<\/p>\n
As part of the energy transformation, KGHM is developing wind and photovoltaic power plant projects on its own land, while at the same time being active in acquiring companies with renewable energy projects in an advanced state of investment preparation or projects already in operation, both photovoltaic and wind.<\/p>\n
In addition to the intensification of activities in renewable energy, KGHM has also realised a significant step towards the further development of nuclear energy. The Ministry of Climate and Environment has issued a decision in principle for the company to build a small modular nuclear power plant (SMR) in Poland.<\/p>\n
