The first episode of the series was devoted to Poland’s largest cyclotron, which is located at the Environmental Laboratory of Heavy Ions in Warsaw. Viewers learned about the use of the cyclotron in the production of radioactive isotopes, which in the form of radiopharmaceuticals are used in cancer diagnosis and treatment.<\/p>\n
As TVP reports, the name of the series is not coincidental. The first part of the word ‘krypton’ in Greek means something hidden and invisible. Chemistry and physics hide many secrets from us. The host of the programme, science populariser Pawe\u0142 Piszcza\u0142ka, is helping to uncover them. As part of the new format, we will jointly peek into the most modern Polish laboratories where international scientists work.<\/p>\n
The subject of the next episode of “Krypton” will be femtosecond lasers and their applications. Today, lasers are present in almost all branches of human activity. Scientists continue to develop related technologies and improve their capabilities. Femtosecond pulsed lasers are considered to be the fastest of their kind in the world.<\/p>\n
And in one of the next episodes, which will be dedicated to catalysis, viewers of TVP Nauka will visit several laboratory groups operating at the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw. Scientists working there will present the phenomenon of catalysis and its application in innovative water purification methods or the creation of the latest generation of photovoltaics.<\/p>\n
The premiere episodes of the new TVP Science programme “Krypton” will be broadcast on TVP Nauka every Sunday at 13:20.<\/p>\n
