United Poland, which is part of the ruling United Right<\/b> coalition, is considering starting work on a draft law reducing the Polish contribution to the European Union budget.<\/b><\/p>\n
The deadline for settling the fine of 500 thousand euro a day, imposed on Poland by the Court of Justice of the European Union for failure to close the Tur\u00f3w mine, is expiring. The first request for payment was sent to Poland by the European Commission on November 10 for the period from September 20 (when the fine was imposed) to October 19 last year, giving 45 days for payment. As Poland did not pay, therefore Brussels on January 3 issued the so-called reminder letter, with a deadline of 15 days.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, on February 22, the Constitutional Tribunal will respond to the motion of the Minister of Justice – Prosecutor General Zbigniew Ziobro (the head of United Poland party), who demands to examine whether the possibility of imposing penalties by the Court of Justice of the European Union on Poland for failure to comply with the adjudicated interim measure is legal and complies with Art. 2, art. 4 and art. 90 sec. 1 of the Polish Constitution.<\/p>\n
If the Constitutional Tribunal adjudicates this motion, it will be a reason to prepare a legal basis, most likely in the form of an act, under which Poland will reduce the amount of contribution to the EU budget.<\/p>\n
