The Information Processing Centre (OPI) has prepared a new report ‘Science in Poland 2022’ on behalf of the Ministry of Education and Science. The publication presents the most important characteristics of Polish science up to 2021, and wherever possible, statistics from 2022 were also presented.<\/span><\/p>\n

The publication shows that Poland ranks fifth in the European Union in terms of the number of researchers, employing 124 600 people. Moreover, according to data from the POL-on system, there are a total of 608 scientific institutions within the Polish science system.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“The data contained in the latest OPI report perfectly show that Poland has a strong scientific capital. In terms of the number of researchers in the European Union, Poland ranks high – fifth. Most staff are employed in public universities (73 %), 12 % in research institutes, 8 % in institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences, 6 % in non-public universities, and less than 1 % in other institutions”, informs Minister of Education and Science Przemys\u0142aw Czarnek.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to data from the POL-on Integrated Information Network on Science and Higher Education, in 2021 there were 369 higher education institutions (including 131 public universities), 78 institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences, 102 research institutes (including 32 institutes of the \u0141ukasiewicz Network) and 59 other institutions. The most numerous group among R&D employees were PhDs (44 %), who predominated especially at universities and institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Research institutes and other entities were dominated by persons with a professional degree of Master of Science or Master of Engineering, who accounted for a total of 16 % in the science sector. Independent research staff, i.e. persons with a postdoctoral degree and a professor’s degree, accounted for, respectively: 27 and 13 % of R&D personnel.<\/span><\/p>\n

One in three scientific institutions is located in the Mazowieckie Voivodeship. According to data from POL-on, 211 entities are located there.<\/span><\/p>\n
