In the\u00a0last decade, expenditure on the private education of children has increased significantly.\u00a0 Based on data from\u00a0the Household Budget Survey of the Central Statistical Office, Polish Economic Institute analyzed the change of expenditure on education in families with\u00a0children of\u00a0school age from 7 to 18 years.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n
More and more Polish households spent relatively large amounts on private education.\u00a0The average monthly expenditure on private education increased from\u00a0PLN 16 in\u00a02010 to PLN 41 in\u00a02020.<\/p>\n
The above amounts seem to be small due to the\u00a0fact that most of the households did not have any expenditure on private education.\u00a0In\u00a02010, 16%\u00a0households had any expenses for this purpose, in the\u00a0following years this share gradually decreased to 7\u00a0%\u00a0in\u00a02020. It was related to the decline in the number of families spending small amounts on private education.\u00a0Therefore, it is also worth paying attention to the average amount spent on education among households that had any expenses for this purpose.\u00a0In\u00a02010, it amounted to PLN 104 per month and\u00a0in the\u00a0next 10 years it increased as much as 6 times – to PLN 615.<\/p>\n
This means that there are an increasing number of families that spend relatively large amounts of money on education and are likely to\u00a0shift fully from\u00a0public to private education.<\/p>\n
Private education expenditure is higher among more affluent families.\u00a0Changes in the\u00a0level and\u00a0structure of expenditure may mean less and less egalitarianism in education.\u00a0More and more parents are choosing private education for their children, but this only applies to those who are\u00a0financially able to do so.<\/p>\n
Polish Economic Institute emphasized that the consequences of this process may be social and the greater share of private education may deepen inequalities.<\/p>\n
