Prof. Adam Glapi\u0144ski was elected by the Sejm as president of the National Bank of Poland (NBP). This is the second, six-year term in office of the current head of the NBP in this position. He was the only candidate. 234 deputies voted in favour of Glapi\u0144ski’s candidacy, and 223 voted against.<\/h5>\n

A motion to appoint Adam Glapi\u0144ski for a second term as the head of the central bank was received by the Sejm on January 12, 2022,<\/p>\n

The head of the Polish central bank is appointed by the Sejm at the request of the President of the Republic of Poland for 6 years. Glapi\u0144ski’s term of office expires in June. The appointment of the NBP president takes place in the Sejm by an absolute majority of votes.<\/p>\n

Prof. Adam Glapi\u0144ski graduated from the Main School of Planning and Statistics in Warsaw in 1972 (now the Warsaw School of Economics) and since 1974 he has worked at this university as a lecturer. He is a professor of economic sciences and the head of the Department of Political Economy and the History of Economics at the College of Management and Finance of the Warsaw School of Economics. In the years 2003-2007, he was a professor at the Prof. Edward Lipi\u0144ski Higher School of Economics and Law in Kielce. Previously, he worked at the Polish Academy of Sciences (1978\u20131983), Inter-University Center of Postgraduate Studies in Dubrovnik (1986\u20131989), the University of Colorado at Boulder (1993\u20131998), United States Business and Industrial Council at the University of Missouri and University of Kansas (1996) and Institut Superieur de Gestion (1994\u20132005).<\/p>\n

In 1991, he was the minister of construction and spatial development in the government of Jan Krzysztof Bielecki. In 1992, he was the minister of economic cooperation with foreign countries in the government of Jan Olszewski.<\/p>\n

In 2009, Adam Glapi\u0144ski was the economic advisor to the President of the Republic of Poland, Lech Kaczy\u0144ski. In 2010, the President of the Republic of Poland appointed him to the Monetary Policy Council for a six-year term.<\/p>\n
